Getting some torrential rain today! ☔️🌧️🌂 #plantlover #rain #plantsplantsplants #tropicalplants #brisbane Happy Mother’s Day! Fraser Island/K’gari Creeper (Tecomanthe hillii) in flower for Mother’s Day 🌸💐🌸 #australianplants #australiannatives #gardeninglife #gardeningaustralia #gardening A little montage of the things that are (still, surprisingly!) flowering in our Brisbane garden in May #flowers #tropicalplants #tropicalgardens #brisbane #queensland Thirty-something years of ‘involuntary exposure therapy’ but you can still hear the squeals of horror echoing from the foliage in our garden 😱😂🤣 #australian #gardening #spider #arachnophobia #gardenaddict Sunday afternoon pics, the garden’s colours are upping in intensity with the cooler weather 🌈 #sundayvibes #gardencolour #heliconia #cordyline #queensland It’s definitely jumper/sweater weather today in Brisbane… 🥶 OK, I’m being a bit dramatic - Brisbane doesn’t get THAT cold (22°C today) 😂 The heliconias are still pumping, even with the cooler weather… this one is called ‘Jacquinii’ - a totally underrated cultivar. #heliconia #tropicalflowers #gardener #tropicalplants #tropicalgarden One of those rare moments a Plumbago Blue Butterfly 🦋(Leptotes plinius), was sitting still enough for me to photograph with my phone. I think this one might be male (due to the colour). We have a whole colony of these native butterflies in our Plumbago bush… honestly the only reason we keep it (I’m not a huge fan of the plant itself). 🦋💙🦋💙 How many hoardylines is too many? Asking for a friend. 😅🌱 Did you know? Blue-banded bees (genus Amegilla) have a fascinating nightly ritual. As the sun sets, males gather to roost, often gripping onto slender stems or grass with their mandibles (jaws) and hanging in small clusters. This behaviour helps them conserve energy and may offer some protection from predators overnight. Unlike many social bees, blue-banded bees are solitary nesters - but they still come together to sleep, creating these striking little “bee slumber parties” in the garden.
